BEDFORD — This June, during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter is offering a series of free, virtual events aimed at empowering individuals to make brain-healthy choices through diet and nutrition.

The special three-week virtual education series will feature live cooking demonstrations by dietitians focused on eating healthier foods to help reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Participants will learn how to incorporate more vegetables and leaner proteins into their meals, reduce processed and high-fat foods, and adapt recipes for budget-friendly shopping and dietary restrictions. Sessions will also include tips for preparing meals at home, choosing smarter snacks, and making better choices when eating on the go or dining out.

“These sessions offer simple, realistic guidance for anyone looking to take steps to protect their brain health,” said Nicole McGurin, programs and services director for the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter. “Diet and nutrition are key components in promoting cognitive wellness, and we’re proud to offer accessible resources for our communities during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.”

According to the 2025 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures Report, there are more than 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s. The lifetime risk for the disease at age 45 is 1 in 5 for women, and 1 in 10 for men. The brain changes that cause Alzheimer’s are thought to begin 20 years or more before symptoms start, which suggests there may be a substantial window of time to intervene in the progression of the disease. Research shows healthy lifestyle interventions may reduce the risk of cognitive decline and help reduce the risk of dementia.

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is a time to learn more, get involved, and take steps to protect the brain. All virtual education sessions are free and open to the public. To register or learn more, visit alz.org/manh/events/ABAM.
