Three Lakes Region bookstores are planning special book-signing event beginning Memorial Day weekend to help launch the “The Lakes Region of New Hampshire: Four Seasons, Countless Memories," a new and unique local book of photographs and insider information about the area.
On Saturday, May 23, local photographers whose work is featured in the book will be appearing at The Country Bookseller (23 N. Main Street) in Wolfeboro from 9 - 11 a.m. Later that same day they will be at Bayswater Books Co. in Center Harbor from noon - 2 p.m. Editor Ray Carbone will also be at the event and people are invited to ask about the photography and the creating of the book, the only one of its kind on the market. (Some photographers may even have framed images, prints or cards featuring images in the new book.)
"The Lakes Region of New Hampshire: Four Seasons, Countless Memories" is a 96-page full-color coffee-table style book with almost 200 photographs showcasing the Lakes Region in all its year-round beauty: the summer moonlight shimmering off Meredith Bay; sailboats rocking serenely in the autumn waters of Squam Lake; aerial views of Gunstock Mountain Resort; and plenty of lakeside camps and mountain.
Some of the greatest photographers in the Lakes Region contributed to the new book: John Gill, twice named New Hampshire’s Photographer of the Year; Daryl Carlson, the award-winning chief photographer of The Citizen of Laconia newspaper; Robert J. Kozlow, photographer-author of “The White Mountains: A Photographic Journey”; Bradley Libenson, photographer of “Sights Unseen: New Hampshire”; noted nature and architectural photographer Bob Manley; Bill Hemmel of Lakes Region Aerial Photography; and Bob Ness, whose works have appeared in “Classic Country Living” magazine.
The book also features stories about the history of ice-harvesting on Squam Lake, a spring cruise about the M/S Mount Washington, a walking tour of Laconia — and the “Best of the Lakes Region,” a listing of restaurants, shops and great places to see and things to do culled from the most recent listings in New Hampshire magazine’s “Best of New Hampshire.”
On the following weekend, Saturday, May 30, from 2 – 4 p.m., virtually all of the 15 book contributors — both photographers and writers — have been invited to a special outdoor book-signing event in the outdoor mall area in front of the Innisfree Bookshop in the Mill Falls Marketplace in Meredith. Again, the artists will talk with people about their work and have framed copies, books, prints and/or cards for sale. Carbone will also be on hand to with people about the book.
And on Wednesday, June 10, the Corner House Inn in Sandwich will hold a special “Meet the Photographer/Editor” dinner with Citizen Chief Photographer Daryl Carlson and Editor Ray Carbone. For details, call the restaurant at (603) 284-6219.
“The Lakes Region of New Hampshire: Four Seasons, Countless Memories” is available at local bookstores and other fine shops beginning Memorial Day weekend: it will cost $29.95 for a soft-cover edition, and $49.95 for a limited signed-and-numbered hardcover first-edition.
