Capstone Projects by Plymouth State Bachelor of Fine Arts Candidates

PLYMOUTH — Twelve Plymouth State University seniors will present capstone projects, a requirement for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, through May 15. Graphic design projects will be presented at the Silver Center for the Arts, and studio art works at the Karl Drerup Art Gallery.

Graphic design students work to create and define a fictitious company and spend the year producing a broad range of applications. Studio art majors delve into personal themes, motifs and media to achieve a mature body of work. Both groups will participate in a gallery talk beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.

Professor Kimberly Anderson Ritchie, BFA studio thesis coordinator says the yearlong process of preparing for this culminating exhibition teaches students to be "working artists, thinkers, creators and visionaries. They learn how to have an idea and execute it in the best possible way." It is also a memorable event for ongoing art students as the support one another in all disciplines. Additionally, the faculty will use the exhibition as a teaching tool for current students. Ritchie says, "These shows don't 'die' when they come down in May. They live on and are discussed year after year."
