To honor the foresight and commitment of Judge Stephen Gordon Nash to their community, the library corporators have organized a benefit to celebrate Judge Nash Day on August 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gordon-Nash Library. This exciting event will help raise much-needed funds to support the Gordon-Nash Library which has remained free, independent, and non-tax supported for over one hundred years.

The program will feature a piano concert with Kathleen Smith and Martha Shepp, faculty members from The New Hampton School, a brief discussion of the history of the library, followed by refreshments and a guided tour which will include an opportunity to see the judge’s private collection.

The library’s rich history includes stories of Grace and Ina Bickford, daughters of the Rev. Lewis Bickford, the first librarian, who cleaned and filled the oil lamps every Saturday until electricity was installed in 1900. After her father’s death, Ina served as librarian from 1917 until 1949.

Through the dedication and commitment of those who came before, we have been allowed access to this wonderful treasure. Now the library is in need of our support.

Residents and friends are invited to show their appreciation for the wonderful gift Judge Nash so graciously established for us to enjoy. A ten-dollar donation will be gratefully accepted at the door.
