On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks sparked a revolution to freedom when she refused to yield her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Ala. city bus. It was a simple yet courageous act, one that earned her the title of "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement."

Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks is the story of both Rosa Parks and the countless brave citizenswho galvanized the Civil Rights Movement. Witnesses and participants in the Montgomery Bus Boycott tell their story, while archival footage and dramatic reenactments re-create the energy, joy, pain and triumph of that extraordinary period.

Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks will be shown on Monday, January 16 at 7 p.m. in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The film is 40 minutes long, suitable for ages 10 and older, and will be followed by a short discussion. The showing is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia and will be held in the society's meetinghouse at 172 Pleasant Street. Admission is free, and the meetinghouse is fully wheelchair accessible. For more information call 524-6488.
