I-L Team Toaster wins forensics competition

MEREDITH - Steve Day from NEFCO Fire Investigations awards "Team Toaster" as the winners of the Forensics Laboratory and Report Competition. Day is an electrical engineer and fire investigator. He joins Kristine McGurkin's popular forensics class twice a semester. He brings burned out electrical appliances to teach the students how to dismantle the equipment, record their findings, write a detailed report including pictures and detailed diagrams, and to research any recalls. The final class is a mock courtroom environment where Day puts the students on the stand to defend their reports. The class is a hands-on approach to learning through which students learn how to record accurately, how to answer questions in a courtroom and perfect their written reports. Anyone who is interested in sharing their career path with the students may contact allison.duffield@interlakes.org. This was organized by Allison Duffield of the Career Partnership Program, which is a division of the Greater Meredith Program.
