Franklin Community Day in May was a success in most ways, but one of the much-anticipated activities was postponed. Franklin Rotary Club's Duck Race got pre-empted by the raging Winnipesaukee River. The water was too dangerous for the dive teams to pluck the ducks out.
"Our club members discussed just holding a drawing instead," said Dave Liberatore, president of Franklin Rotary Club, "but there was such overwhelming interest, especially by children, to see the ducks run their
course, that we knew we had to reschedule."
The Franklin race is now scheduled for July 15 at 10 a.m., river conditions permitting. The starting line will be the Sulphite (or upside-down) Bridge; the finishing line will be near Trestle View Park, again depending
on river conditions.
The event is a fundraiser to support local scholarships, and although most of the chances have been sold, a few still remain. For more information about Franklin Rotary and the Duck Race, visit http://franklinrotaryclub.org or call Fred Hoffmeister at 934-3666.
