LACONIA — Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center has completed a face-lift on its three-mile trail system thanks to a generous grant from Northeast Delta Dental.

The grant allowed Prescott Farm to purchase full-color aluminum directional signs to place at all major trail junctions, ten interpretive signs to give more information about various points of interest on the property, update the large trail map in the trailhead kiosk, as well as replace six wooden footbridges on the trail system that were in poor condition.

"We are very grateful to Northeast Delta Dental for supporting our mission to connect people with the natural world," says Sarah Dunham-Miliotis, Executive Director, "Because of this grant, our trails are much easier to navigate and safer for families that come here to enjoy being outside together."

The trail signs were installed by volunteers from the community and the NH Jobs for American Graduates (NH-JAG) program at Laconia Middle School. The footbridges were built by volunteers from the Gilford Community Center, NH-JAG, and members of the community.

Prescott Farm's trails are open to the public for free daily from dawn to dusk. Trail maps are available in the Pardoe Building and outside in the green mailbox at the corner of the Pardoe Building. Prescott Farm is a non-profit organization that also offers year-round environmental education for all ages including WildQuest vacation camps, school field trips, family and youth programs and Naturalist-in-Residence programs at 3 local elementary schools. The 160-acre historic family farm also features a "green" building with geothermal and solar energy systems, historic barns, an old-fashioned maple sugaring operation, heritage gardens, and a forested pond.
