LACONIA — Deb Peaslee, Clinical Director of Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association (LRVNA), recently earned her OASIS Specialist-Clinical designation.
Peaslee took her final exam- a 2.5 hour process- this past winter. She is the first LRVNA staffer to earn this designation, which is also known as COS-C, according to Executive Director Cheryl Gonzalo.
OASIS is an acronym for the Outcome and Assessment Information Set, a data set used in home healthcare agencies in the Medicare certification process.
Originally developed and administered by the OASIS Certificate and Competency board, the COS-C exam is a voluntary certification exam for home-care providers interested in demonstrating their commitment to OASIS data accuracy. The nationally-standardized exam is a challenging one: program officials estimate that roughly 76 percent of students achieve a passing score.
"Being an expert in OASIS data is important for accurate patient care, billing and reimbursement," Gonzalo said. "And that plays a vital role in the services the LRVNA provides."
As Clinical Director, Peaslee currently trains employees in OASIS data collection. The longtime Executive Director of Moultonborough Visiting Nurse Service, Peaslee was named Clinical Director when the former organization was merged with the LVRNA in 2014.
The Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association is located at 186 Waukewan St. in Meredith. For more information call 603-279-6611 or visit www.lrvna.org.
The Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association was founded in 1923. Initially consisting of a single nurse with a mission in Meredith, LRVNA currently serves Meredith, Center Harbor, Moultonborough, Sandwich, Laconia and Gilford, providing a full range of nursing, social services and therapeutic services.
