LACONIA — WinnAero, the aviation and aerospace-themed STEM educational nonprofit group, is accepting applications for its 2018 Aerospace Career Education Academy Summer Camp. The program provides hands-on learning experiences for elementary, middle, and high school age groups. “WinnAero’s Education Director Dan Caron has done a fantastic job again this year by building schedules of the tried and true activities interspersed with evolving interests. His Space Academy, started in 2015, has been very well received and is returning again. And this year he has created a drone course for high school students,” said WinnAero President Scott Davis.
The 2018 ACE Academy schedule is as follows:
- For grades 3-5 students: parents may choose either session 1, July 9-13 or session 2, July 16-20. Both will run from 8:30 a.m.-noon and tuition is $250 per student.
- For grades 6-8 ACE Academy: July 16-20 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. daily and students can choose one of three educational interests to pursue: Pilot and Air Traffic Control; Pilot and Search & Rescue; or Pilot and Aerospace Engineering/Manufacturing.
- For grades 6 through 9 Space Academy: July 9-13, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The emphasis this session is on Rocketry, Astronomy, and Space Station Design.
- For high school (grades 9-12): July 9-13, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Two choices: the Drone track and the Pilot/Aerospace Engineering/Manufacturing track.
Middle and high school session tuition is $450 and some scholarships are available at the elementary, middle and high school levels. All sessions take place at the Laconia Airport. All instructors in the ACE program are New Hampshire-certified technology teachers augmented with topic experts from the field being studied. Interested parents and students are encouraged to visit www.winnaero.org to see previous ACE Academy activities as well as this year’s plans and an application form.
