WOLFEBORO — Suspense has been building since the Wolfeboro Heritage Commission announced its Wolfeboro Heritage Awards program earlier this year. Now, the time has come to honor the second annual award winners.

The public is invited to join in the festivities on Wednesday, May 29, at The Village Players, 51 Glendon St. in Wolfeboro. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a reception, with the awards presentation beginning at 6:15 p.m. The event is free and light refreshments will be available.

"We hope these awards will help raise the community’s awareness of the many people who care about our town's heritage and who work to preserve important historic buildings that contribute to the character and quality of life in Wolfeboro," said Maggie Stier, chair of the Wolfeboro Heritage Commission.

The awards recognize people, organizations, businesses or community projects for their contributions to the preservation of Wolfeboro’s built environment.

Sara Reineman and Ronn Bronzetti of LakeWinniTeam.com are generous, repeat sponsors of the event.

The Wolfeboro Heritage Commission was created by voters in 2016 to help town government recognize, manage, and protect historical and cultural resources. The commission’s members advise and assist other local boards and commissions, conduct surveys of historic resources, educate the public on matters relating to historic preservation and historical resources, and serve as a resource for revitalization efforts.

Among its activities, the commission is completing work to catalogue historic resources in Wolfeboro. Funded by passage of a warrant article, the town hired a preservation consultant to carry out a town-wide survey of Wolfeboro’s historic resources and capture those findings in a report. Highlights of the report will be unveiled at the event on May 29.
