LACONIA — Weather permitting, members of the Unitarian-Universalist Green Sanctuary & Social Justice Committees, as well as the Laconia-Gilford Lions will be curbside at the UUSL Church, at 172 Pleasant St., on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to collect soft dry plastics and No. 6 Styrofoam for recycling. They will also be holding a food donation drive to assist the Community Action Program pantry.

No hard or "crunchy" plastics or pet food bags may be accepted. Try the following tests to see whether plastics can be dropped off:

  1. See if the plastic will stretch when pulled. If yes, it can be included. If it tears or rips like paper, then no
  2. Is the plastic shiny or does it make a crinkly, crunchy sound when crumpled? If it does, it is not acceptable for this program. No hard plastics may be accepted

Only hard Styrofoam products bearing a "#6" symbol will be accepted.

Soft plastics and Styrofoam must all be clean, dry, and free of labels. Keep plastics and Styrofoam separate. There is no charge or fee to drop off these items. Donators do not need to be a resident of Laconia to participate in this effort. It is open to all.

Screen the items to ensure they are acceptable. Items mixed with unacceptable donations must be refused or trashed.
