BOSTON — The University of New Hampshire recently received a grant for the creation of a new stormwater center of excellence through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In total, the EPA announced it would award $5 million in grants to establish four new Centers of Excellence for Stormwater Control Infrastructure Technologies and a national clearinghouse for new and emerging stormwater control technologies. The Centers of Excellence will play an important role in improving stormwater infrastructure across the country by conducting research and providing technical assistance to State, Tribal and local governments.
“Clean, safe, and usable waterways are a resource necessary to ensure that communities across New England can continue to thrive, and no one should experience flooding on their streets or in their basements, especially in overburdened communities” said EPA New England Regional Administrator David W. Cash. “Street and land pollution that is carried into local waterways can be dangerous to the health and safety of kids, families, communities who use these waterways as a means for recreation or their livelihood. With this critical investment into our communities, we’re excited to continue engaging a vision for cleaner waterways. Congratulations to the University of New Hampshire for receiving this grant.”

The grants are made possible by President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure law.
