LACONIA — Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative, a program of the Belknap Mill and the resident theatre company of the Colonial Theatre, is producing a staged reading of Anne Nelson’s "The Guys" to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The Guys is part of the 2021 Mill Series sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire.

Performances will be Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m.; discussions with the audience will take place following each performance.

Nelson wrote the play inspired by her own story in the aftermath of 9/11 when she helped an FDNY Captain write eulogies for the men he lost during the collapse of the Twin Towers. In the play, Joan, a writer struggling with her own feelings of trauma from the attack on her adopted home, attempts to contribute to her community by supporting a first responder having to find the words to express the inexpressible.

The production will be directed by Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative Producer, Bryan Halperin.

Performances will take place in the Rose Chertok Gallery (3rd Floor) of the Belknap Mill. Tickets can be purchased by cash or check at the door.

Powerhouse’s 2021 season is sponsored by Spectacle Live. For more details on Powerhouse and all the programs at the Belknap Mill, visit www.belknapmill.org or email powerhouse@belknapmill.org.
