HOLDERNESS — As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is partnering with the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation to present a summer lecture series highlighting decades of environmental research and education. Titled "Rooted in Research: Decades of Forest Discovery," the series will feature scientists working at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in North Woodstock.
This free lecture series will bring Hubbard Brook scientists to the Science Center to share their research and knowledge on a range of topics, including invasive species, stream ecology, bat diversity, climate change, forest history, the impact of ice storms, and scientific illustration. Through these fascinating presentations and discussions, participants will gain knowledge into the ecological studies that help our community better understand and protect our forests and ecosystems.
The lecture series begins on July 2 with "Bryophytes: Hidden Engineers of Mountain Streams," presented by Heili Lowman, a watershed ecologist and aquatic biogeochemist. The lecture series will continue throughout July and August. All events will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Squam Lakes Natural Science Center’s Trailhead Gallery.
There is no cost to participate in these programs, but advance registration is required. For more information or to register, visit nhnature.org.
