HOLDERNESS — Don’t let the cold weather keep you from enjoying the winter wonders of the Squam Lakes region. In this Polar Explorer Crash Course, Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Shannon Peachey will guide you through safely encountering the winter outdoors.

You will learn about cold weather injuries, how to prevent them, and how to treat them. You will get a walkthrough of must-have gear for all your outdoor endeavors. The best part of this crash course is that you will take a winter hike through Chamberlain Reynolds, with a stop for a fire-building demonstration and s’mores indulgence.

The program will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21, between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., and will meet at the Squam Lakes Association headquarters. Be sure to dress for the weather, bring layers, plenty of water and snacks.

For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website at squamlakes.org or contact the SLA directly at 603-968-7336. The SLA also offers other guided hikes and Adventure Ecology programming throughout the year.
