Bike repairs

WOLFEBORO — Makers Mill is hosting its next repair café on Sunday, Sept. 28, 1-4 p.m., inviting community members to bring their broken items and breathe new life into them with the help of skilled volunteers. From clothing, electronics, small appliances, jewelry, furniture, and bicycles, the Repair Café is part of a global movement to reduce waste, extend the life of belongings, and encourage hands-on learning.

This month features a new highlight — bicycle repair support led by volunteer Bob Mathes, representing the Makers Mill Bike & Ski Circle. Mathes will be on hand at the repair café to help with bike fixes and guidance. He’ll also teach “Bicycle Maintenance: Flat Tire Repair and Inflation” twice in October — Saturday, Oct. 11 (10 a.m.-noon) and Tuesday, Oct. 16 (6-8 p.m.) — giving riders the confidence to handle basic repairs themselves.

Other repair opportunities at the café include mending clothing, troubleshooting small electronics and appliances, tightening furniture, fixing jewelry, and more. Volunteers not only repair items but also teach attendees how to do the work themselves, empowering the community to take an active role in sustainability. Attendees are encouraged to bring tools or parts specific to their repair needs, clearly labeled to avoid mix-ups. Please note that some projects may fall outside the scope of available resources.

Repair Cafés originated in the Netherlands in 2009 and have since spread to more than 50 countries. Makers Mill is proud to host Wolfeboro’s own version, fostering community resilience through creativity and practical skill-sharing.
