New rotunda exhibit at Laconia Public Library: 'The Art of Mauricio Tejerina'

LACONIA — Laconia Public Library invites residents to enjoy the new rotunda exhibit, "The Art of Mauricio Tejerina." Mauricio Tejerina is a Spanish-born artist, illustrator, and concept designer whose career spans fine art, illustration, and video game development. He studied fine arts in the Dominican Republic before earning a bachelor of fine arts from Parsons School of Design in New York City.

Early in his career, Tejerina worked as an illustrator in Spain, the Dominican Republic, and New York. After graduating, he relocated to Boston, where he entered the video game industry as a 3D artist and concept artist. Over the years, he has contributed to acclaimed titles including System Shock 2, SWAT 4, the BioShock series, and Star Trek Online, helping shape immersive worlds through visual storytelling and design.

Today, Tejerina lives and works in Kittery, Maine, where he continues his practice across illustration, fine art, and game development. His work reflects a lifelong fascination with drawing, composition, and the relationship between observation and imagination. Outside the studio, he enjoys sketching, painting, and woodworking, pursuits that continue to inform his appreciation for craftsmanship and creative process.

Since relocating from Los Gatos, California, to the coast of Maine, Tejerina has found renewed inspiration in the landscapes and quiet moments of his surroundings. His recent work explores the interplay of color and line, seeking to capture moments of stillness that invite reflection and a sense of peace.

Working between drawing and painting, Tejerina pursues a level of craftsmanship that encourages viewers to slow down, linger, and inhabit the space within each image. Whether depicting a coastal path, a stand of trees, or the changing light of a familiar place, his goal is to create visual experiences that ground the viewer in a specific moment while allowing room for personal interpretation and contemplation.

The exhibit will remain on display from September through November.
