LACONIA — The Laconia-Gilford Lions Club and the Green Sanctuary Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia will be again collecting clean SOFT plastics on Saturday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are collecting plastic grocery bags, vegetable bags, pet food bags, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves, bread bags, air packing bags, dry cleaning bags, wood pellet bags, and ice bags.

Each piece of clean plastic is sent via the drop off at Hannaford’s in Gilford to a company in Maine to be repurposed into composite decking and outdoor furniture. The volunteers (masked) will be in front of the little white church at 172 Pleasant Street.

The last collection drive weighed in at 222 lbs. in total.

Spread the word. Show our earth some affection this Valentine’s season by putting toxic plastic in its place.
