MEREDITH – The Meredith Rotary Club held its annual Four-Way Speech Contest during the Club’s April 18 meeting at Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant in Meredith. Eligible participants include all high school-age students who attend either Inter-Lakes High School (ILHS) or Moultonborough Academy (MA).  The contest is also open to home-schooled students who would otherwise attend one of those two high schools.

The speech must be original in content and apply all four questions in the Rotary Four-Way Test as they apply to everyday relationships.  The speech must be not less than five minutes and not more than seven.  It may be given from memory or adequate notes but not read.

The Rotary Four-Way Test asks the following questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build coodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The finalists for 2018 included Patrick Berry, MacKenzie Malcolm, Hailey Perry and Kayla Sasson, all students at Inter-Lakes High School. Cash prizes were awarded as follows: First-place winner MacKenzie Malcolm received $250; second-place winner Kayla Sasson received $200, and third-place winners Patrick Barry and Hailey Perry (a tie) each received $150.

As first-place winner, MacKenzie Malcolm will be also be included in the District Semi-Final contest scheduled in Henniker on May 6. The top four contenders from the District Semi-Final will advance to the District Final event held during the week of June 1 in Burlington, Vermont, as part of the Rotary District Conference.
