McQuade Fine Arts offers 2 fall studio watercolor and pastel classes in Tilton

TILTON — McQuade Fine Arts will offer two, five-week studio classes this fall at the Lakes Region Art Gallery in Tilton, both taught by juried artist Stephanie C. McQuade. "Watercolor Workout and Pastels Beyond Basics" begin Tuesday, Oct. 6. 

"Watercolor Workout" meets on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon for five consecutive weeks. The class is designed for painters who have finished a beginner watercolor course or completed substantial online practice but are not yet ready for intermediate-level work. Sessions combine guided exercises, live demonstrations, and painting time with real-time feedback. The goal is to build confidence, strengthen techniques, and keep students painting with support in the room.

"Pastels Beyond Basics" also runs for five consecutive weeks beginning Oct. 6, with sessions starting at 1 p.m. Week one reviews papers, pastels, mark-making, and tonal exercises. For the remaining four weeks, students bring their own reference photos, sketches, or ideas and work toward a finished piece with personalized instruction. The class is open to artists new to pastels as well as those looking to refine an existing practice in a studio setting.

Both classes are held at the Lakes Region Art Gallery in Tilton. McQuade’s teaching emphasizes a supportive, hands-on environment rather than lecture-heavy instruction.

“We want to create a space where everyone feels confident picking up a brush, whether for the first time or to take their work further,” said McQuade. “It’s all about exploring creativity and enjoying the process.”
