Mack-a-Palooza supports future farmers, celebrates opening of corn maze

MEREDITH ― On Friday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., a unique special event at Moulton Farm kicks off the start of corn maze season while also benefiting a scholarship for Inter-Lakes High School or Moultonborough Academy students who want to study agriculture, horticulture, the arts, or who have worked at Moulton Farm.

Local food and beverage companies, including local breweries, will be set up throughout the farm’s four acre corn maze giving out samples of their products the evening before the corn maze opens to the public. Food trucks, music, and a huge inflatable obstacle course will also be part of the festive event. All of the proceeds go to the Mack MacNamara Scholarship. Tickets can be purchased at the farm ahead of the event, at MoultonFarm.com, and a limited number of tickets can be purchased at the event. The event is sponsored by Moulton Farm and The Xavier Group.

MacKenzie “Mack” McNamara was an Inter-Lakes High School student and graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He went on to become the lead grower at Moulton Farm and played a key role in helping the Meredith farm grow food. He unexpectedly passed in 2019.

“We wanted to find a fun way to continue to grow the scholarship fund and make the event something Mack would have enjoyed,” said Jeff Mills, general manager of the farm. “Different ideas were being considered, and I happened to be speaking with Rachel Xavier. She had some great ideas and it evolved from there. This event wouldn’t be possible without her and her real estate team.”

On Saturday, Sept. 19, Moulton Farm’s corn maze opens to the public for the season. This year’s theme celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In addition to the corn maze the farm has a sunflower field for people to enjoy and pick flowers in as well as a "pick your own" pumpkin patch. For those who don’t wish to pumpkin hunt in a field, the farm has many pre-picked pumpkins in all shapes, colors and sizes that were grown at the farm.

Free wagon rides will be available most weekends. Live music is also happening Saturdays and Sundays starting on Saturday, Sept. 26. Fall displays, games, and goats will make for good pictures, and the farm's garden center has plants, corn stalks, and other items to use for decorating.

Food from Moulton Farm’s kitchen and bakery will be available in the farm market including soups, salads, apple crisp, freshly baked pies, and whoopie pies in several flavors along with produce grown at the farm and apples from New Hampshire orchards. The Cider Bellies Doughnut stand will also be open.

Moulton Farm's corn maze will be open seven days a week starting at 8 a.m. from Saturday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Nov. 1. The last admission to the maze is one hour before the farm closes.
