BELMONT — American Legion Post 58 of Belmont honored long-time member Woodbury P. Foggat at recent meeting of the post. Woodbury, otherwise known as "Woody," received an award of appreciation, in a framed certificate and a gift card of $100 from the post membership. Vice Commander Rich Stanley made the presentation. Citing Woody’s many years of dedicated service to the post, Mr. Stanley said in part, “Woody” has served this post in many different roles over the years and he has always worked with honor and distinction in whatever missions he participated in. We are truly fortunate to have such a veteran as a member of our post.”

Woody first joined the American Legion back in 1994 and continues to serve to the present day. During this time he has held the office of first vice commander for 19 years and also served as the post adjutant and finance officer from 2013 through 2021. Woody currently holds the office of judge advocate for Post 58. Woody served his country in the U.S. Army for 34 years, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was assigned as a platoon leader in the Combat Engineers. Woody retired from the Army as a Lt. Colonel.

Following his military service, among other things, he served as Director of the NH Governor’s Office of Emergency Management and as Co-Chairman of the National Emergency Management Association’s Anti-Terrorism Committee and led the development of a mutual disaster assistance compact between the 6 NE states, NY and the five eastern Canadian provinces. He has also served our town in many ways over the years and was particularly pleased to be an integral part of constructing the Belmont Rail Spur Trail and its two covered bridges and also the saving and moving of the historic Gale School. Post 58 and its veterans continue to serve.
