PLYMOUTH — Award winning artist and educator Marek Bennett will present a whirlwind survey of comics from around the world and throughout history in a virtual program sponsored by the Plymouth Historical Society and Pease Public Library on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 p.m.
Bennett pays special attention to what these vibrant narratives tell and show us about the periods that created them. He will engage the audience in an interactive discussion of several sample comics representing cultures as different as Ancient Rome, Feudal and Modern Japan, and the United States in the early 20th century. The program explores the various ways of creating and reading comics from around the world and what these techniques tell us about the cultures in which they occur.
Marek Bennett is a New Hampshire based cartoonist, musician, and educator. He leads discovery based Comics Workshops for all ages throughout New England and the world beyond. Bennett is the recipient of the 2021 New Hampshire Governor’s Arts Award for Art Education.
The Comics in World History and Cultures program is supported by New Hampshire Humanities.
