Intro to 3D Printing with Elizabeth Helfer May 20

WOLFEBORO — Makers Mill continues its line-up of virtual online workshops with Intro to 3D Printing presented by Elizabeth Helfer on Thursday, May 20 from 6-8 p.m.

While fundraising continues to complete building renovations and open the doors at Makers Mill by the end of the year, a series of online workshops on a variety of topics will be offered. “While we are unable to run on-site programming until we have completed fundraising and the resulting renovations, these online workshops are a way to keep us connected to our community for now,” said Josh Arnold, Makers Mill executive director. “They are the thread that brings people together to discover, cultivate, and share their unique gifts and skills.”

In the first part of this virtual workshop, participants will learn what 3D printing is, how it works, and how they can start making their own 3D prints. Liz will discuss what 3D printers can do and how they can be used to create objects that support sculptural practice or art objects. The class will look at popular software and applications that enable 3D printing, as well as mapping the basic component parts of an FDM/FFF 3D printer.

In the second part of the workshop, participants will start designing their own 3D object in TinkerCAD or SculptGL. At the conclusion, they will be able to send in a .STL file to Liz, who will print it out and then mail back the finished project.

Participants are encouraged to create a free TinkerCAD account prior to the workshop, and login at least once to understand the basic navigation of the TinkerCAD site.

This workshop will be conducted over Zoom and thereby requires computer proficiency and access to a laptop or desktop computer. A mouse with a scroll wheel is recommended.

Liz grew up in New Durham, NH, and has been active in the Lakes Region cultural scene. After graduating from Alfred University, Liz traveled to create sculptures across the USA and Europe. 

The Intro to 3D Printing workshop registration is $35 per person and is limited to 10 people on a first come first serve basis.
