GILFORD — The Gunstock Ski Club recently hosted the annual Gus Pitou GS Memorial Race on Jan. 11. Over 200 racers from across New Hampshire participated in the event.
The Gunstock Ski Club was well represented on the podium with Hadley Nickerson winning the U12 and Abigail Lyman winning the U14 for the women. Remington Barr winning the U10, Anthony Bo winning U12 and Liam Coutts winning U14 for the men.
Penny Pitou, 1960 Olympic silver medalist, was in attendance to hand out awards and represent her father, Gus. Gus Pitou greatly contributed to the growth of youth ski racing in the Lakes Region during the 1950 and ‘60s. The first Gus Pitou race was held in 1966 after his passing.
