GILMANTON — Gilmanton celebrates its 127th Old Home Day on Saturday, Aug. 16, on the grounds of the Smith Meetinghouse starting with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. with activities through 3 p.m.

“I want to thank all the financial supporters and volunteers who come together each year to help preserve this tradition” said Sarah Baldwin, chairperson of the event. “Without them the tradition could not continue, and it is an important part of Gilmanton’s history. The weather forecast looks good for Saturday and encourages everyone to pack up the kids, family, lawn chairs and join in the fun.”

A long-standing highlight of the day is the traditional bean-hole bean dinner that is served family-style at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Diners will enjoy their choice of pea, kidney and vegetarian beans (prepared in traditional bean holes on site) that are served with ham, brown bread, coleslaw, a beverage and homemade pie. The dinner tickets will be sold at the event.

This year’s live entertainment will be The New Englanders, a country/folk acoustic band, and Gilmanton’s Dump Run Gang of local musicians, Bashirah Fusion Belly Dancing and Lindsay and her Puppet Pals. An Art and Classic Vehicle Show and parade, an exhibit “Old Home Day Through the Years” by the Gilmanton Historical Society, 30-plus vendors and a tug-of-war where all ages join in. No dogs allowed at this event.
