GILFORD — The Winni'ng Girls, the Gilford Hills Tennis & Fitness Club’s 3.5, 18 & Over women’s tennis team, capped off a successful season with a strong showing at the New England District Championships in Portland, Maine, Aug. 5-7.
Each team match consists of two singles and three doubles positions. The Winni’ng Girls defeated their opponents in the early rounds and advanced to the finals. Despite their best efforts, they lost in the finals to Manchester's Executive Club.
Team members are co-captains Molly Joyce and Elizabeth Stowe, Jennifer Kelley, Heidi Noyes-Bourgeois, Betsy Chapin, Dawn Smith, Simone Lord, Barb Shegog, Joyce Sylvester, Nancy Tothill, Janet McDonough, Julie Ciaraldi, Paula Spenser, Jolie Hassler, and Petrice Ranno. The team’s head coach was Curt Chesley, USPTA professional. Chesley has been coaching the Gilford Hills travel tennis teams for over 30 years. Assistant coaching pros include John Judge, Diego Leal, and Andres Velasco, the new tennis director at Gilford Hills.
The USTA 18 & Over women’s league runs from September to March. Gilford Hills welcomes all players and has teams to accommodate skills from 2.5 to 4.0. For more information, contact the club.
