9/11 monument to be built in Meredith, unveiled on 25th anniversary

MEREDITH — The year 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. On that fateful day, 2,977 innocent people, including 343 New York firefighters lost their lives due to the worst terrorist attack on our country.

The Meredith Fire Department has been asked by the Meredith American Legion, who has organized the 9/11 memorial event in the past, to honor the men and women who lost their lives on that day.

The Meredith Fire Department and the American Legion Griggs-Wyatt Post 33 have formed a 9/11 Remembrance Committee to create an event that will honor their memory 25 years later.

The 9/11 Committee, Chris Maroun, and his team from Miracle Farms, has designed a 9/11 Memorial Garden on the campus of the Meredith Central Fire Station on Daniel Webster Hwy. A granite memorial monument with actual window glass from ground zero will be the center piece of memorial garden.

The granite monument will be un-veiled and dedicated at Hesky Park during the event on Sept. 11, 2026, at noon.

After the event at Hesky Park has been completed the granite memorial will be moved to the campus of the Meredith Fire Central Station located at 286 Daniel Webster Hwy so that the residents and visitors can come and see our remembrance of the 25th remembrance of 9/11.

The Committee requests a monetary donation to offset the cost of the granite memorial as well as the cost of the remembrance event that will be held on Sept. 11. The committee will be designing a 25th Remembrance Memorial Program and the sponsors will be listed.
