MVSB supports research, education at the ‘Home of the World’s Worst Weather’

MEREDITH — Meredith Village Savings Bank donated $2,000 to support the Mount Washington Observatory, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing understanding of the natural systems which create Earth’s weather and climate.

Located atop the highest peak in the Northeast, the observatory is famous for recording a 231 mph wind gust in 1934, which was a world record that stood for more than six decades. Mount Washington is often affectionately referred to as “Home of the World’s Worst Weather” due to extreme wind, rapid temperature drops and whiteout conditions.  

“MVSB’s contribution helps us continue conducting vital weather research, providing educational programs and sharing real-time data that benefits scientists, students and outdoor enthusiasts alike,” said Executive Director of MWOBS Drew Bush. “Support from community partners ensures we can keep advancing our understanding of extreme weather and meteorological science for generations to come.”

Founded in 1932, the Mount Washington Observatory is a nonprofit research and educational institution. From its summit weather station and valley headquarters, the organization conducts year-round scientific observations, offers educational experiences for learners of all ages, and provides unique insight into the extreme conditions atop New England’s highest peak.
