CONCORD — Gov. Kelly Ayotte joined boating industry leaders, law enforcement, and other state officials to kick off the summer boating season and remind Granite Staters to obey the laws, keep waterways clean, and boat responsibly.
“As we launch into boating season, each of us has a role to play to keep our waterways safe, fun, and clean,” said Gov. Ayotte. “Our rivers, lakes, and coastal waters are among our state’s greatest treasures, and we’re going to make sure everyone can enjoy them safely for years to come. I look forward to seeing Granite Staters and visitors alike enjoying a beautiful summer on the water.”
The governor also got a firsthand look at how New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol are preparing for a busy summer on Lake Winnipesaukee and waterways across the state.
“As New Hampshire's boating season gets underway, now is the time for boaters to make safety their top priority,” said Lt. Irwin Malilay, Commander of the New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol. “Before heading out, ensure your vessel is properly equipped, inspect your safety gear, check the weather forecast, and make sure everyone on board has a properly fitting life jacket. Early-season water temperatures remain dangerously cold, even on warm days, and unexpected immersion can quickly become life-threatening. A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping you, your passengers, and others on the water safe throughout the season.”
“Safe boating is everyone’s responsibility. Every operator, every passenger, and every vessel on the water plays a role in keeping our waterways safe, clean, and fun for all,” said John Whalley, President of NH Marine Trades Association. “NHMTA is proud to be a part of the BOATING NH campaign and kicking off the summer season.”
