To The Daily Sun,

On the subject of the Parental Rights Bill, HB 1431, this bill seemingly restores rights to parents that have been taken away or that they never had. When in fact, parents have always had these rights. All parents have to do is exercise their involvement in their kid’s life.

School boards, school administrators and teachers do not have a secret agenda for teaching our children. The school system is required to teach what federal and state guidelines require, which is tied to taxpayer funding. By following these federal and state guidelines, the school system receives funding from these sources.

If parents want to know what is being taught in school all they have to do is talk with their children, be involved and go to school meetings. Most schools today have online software for checking grades and subject assignments. Through this software, parents can also send emails to discuss their child’s progress, set up appointments to meet with teachers and administrators. With parent participation and involvement, the sole responsibility won’t turn to schools or the government. Children need role models, not critics.

With the start of the school year quickly approaching, exercise your right as a parent and be involved in your child’s life.

This action is “for our future."
