Sheila Kufert: Jews were continuously expelled from Israel throughout history

James Veverka had only one factual point in his letter. Jews and Arabs share DNA, at least in 50% of the Jews in modern day Israel, proof that they both originated in the region. The Jews were continuously expelled throughout history. Right now the holiday of Passover is celebrating the Jews’ freedom from slavery in Egypt. They wandered the desert for 40 years before coming back to their homeland. Look at a map of the Middle East. Israel is a tiny state in the middle of Arab countries and Jews have nowhere left to go. This is proven today by the antisemitism in most of the world including colleges in the USA. They have to fight to survive and centuries of persecution has given them that survival instinct. The Jews don’t call themselves refuges. The Palestinians passed that title through their generations accepting aid from many countries and spending it all on weapons and terror tunnels, teaching their children to hate and giving stipends to their people for every Israeli they kill, not learning to live in peace. (They weren't Palestinians until 1964, when the KGB and Arafat came up with that lie).

In 2005, Israel pulled out of Gaza, a complete withdrawal of Jewish residents and military assets from the Strip, the coastal enclave was taken over by the Hamas terror group. In the years since, Hamas has repeatedly fired rockets at Israeli communities, as well as coordinated terror attacks targeting Israeli civilians. The Oct. 7, 2023 massacres were the culmination of years of Hamas planning and intelligence-gathering, which took place virtually unhindered from within the Strip. Israel has pledged to destroy Hamas and said that the terror group will no longer govern Gaza once the war is over. One can’t trade land for peace with people who want to exterminate them.
