Ruth Larson: Time for a change; supporting Cinde Warmington for gov

Cinde Warmington has tirelessly advocated for New Hampshire her entire adult life. After working her way through school, she became a healthcare attorney, pushing for expanded healthcare. As an executive councilor, she alone spoke up for healthcare rights, and opposed bad appointments. This includes the disgraced Gordon MacDonald, whom then Attorney General Kelly Ayotte endorsed admiringly for NH Supreme Court Chief Justice. We need to acknowledge both Warmington’s foresight and Ayotte’s poor judgment there.

Ayotte has mounted a nasty attack against Warmington for her brief work on behalf of Purdue Pharma, for only 9 months of work, as a junior attorney at the start of her career. Ayotte’s own relationship with Purdue Pharma has been both cozy and very lucrative, with Ayotte and her PACs receiving $83,000 from the company. As attorney general, she also refused to have New Hampshire join the multi-state lawsuit against Purdue.

Ayotte has done Donald Trump’s bidding for most of her political career, continuing to today. Ayotte did withdraw her 2016 endorsement of Trump for bragging about degrading and assaulting women following the Access Hollywood tapes. After losing election to Maggie Hassan, however, she clearly decided the path to success meant aligning herself with Trump. Back under his wing, Ayotte helped his U.S. Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch get confirmed so that he could then vote against women’s reproductive choices in Dobbs. So much for Ayotte supporting women.

Ayotte’s capitulation to Trump culminated in her endorsement of him in 2024.

Kelly Ayotte has shown herself to be a spineless opportunist who allies herself with a series of corrupt officials. If reelected, she will continue the MAGA line, allowing our state to be dragged down as she benefits.

It is time for change, and that change is Cinde Warmington.
