R. Paul Weston: Those who care about Earth's environment should vote Harris/Walz

If voters care about the Earth's environment when our grandchildren are grown, I strongly urge them to vote for the Harris/Waltz ticket come November.

We have a complete record of Mr. Donald Trump's efforts concerning our global environment while in the Oval Office from 2017 to 2021, and it is a history which I do not wish to repeat anytime soon. Trump questioned the validity of climate change, making me wonder what climate he is experiencing. He ended our involvement in the Paris Climate Accords, negotiated by 196 countries, which covers climate change, mitigation, adaptation, and finance. Further, he reduced U.S. regulations on greenhouse gases, rolled back some 100 environmental regulations, increased oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, and staffed the EPA with pro gas and oil folks. Was he working for us, or Exxon corporate executives' pocketbooks?

Conversely, the Biden/Harris tenure has adopted the most significant climate action measures in history. First, our national budget now contains over $400 billion to promote electric vehicles, charging stations, and energy efficient infrastructure which will result in 25 gigawatts of clean energy for our grandchildren's world. Other efforts provide for tax credits to spur heat pumps and solar and wind turbines to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And it is notable that 40% of our federal environmental investments must go to financially disadvantaged communities: environmental justice which we can be proud of.

To conclude, the Biden/Harris pragmatic approach has been balanced, maintaining fossil fuel use by supporting continued production while simultaneously incentivizing the transition to renewables.

I pray that our global environment will be acceptable to our grandchildren when they become adults. May God Bless the USA.
