Don Ewing writes that we should be recognizing white European Christians for having borne the cost of ending slavery. Seriously? The same people who built the centuries-long slave trade?
Here is a high school history refresher: Remember the Triangular Slave Trade? White Christian Europeans sold goods to Africa in exchange for human slaves. Making money in the process. They then sold the slaves to the American South in return for cotton, making money in the process. Then they sold the cotton to the manufacturers in Europe, making money in the process.
Thanking them for ending slavery is like thanking the bank robber for ending the crime spree when he goes on vacation.
