Marcia Hayward: Marcia Hayward running for Laconia state representative

I am Marcia Hayward and I am announcing my candidacy for state representative in Laconia. I ask for the support of all Laconians who share my belief that New Hampshire needs to embark on a new path.

I am running because local taxpayers are being crushed by property taxes. I am running because the Free Staters are deliberately dismantling public education. I am running because Concord is taking away our local control with mandates.

For the last decade, the GOP has been in control of the state of NH. They have cut business taxes, room and meals taxes and eliminated the interest and dividends taxes. They promised that the cuts would spur economic growth for the state. There is no data to validate that claim.

The facts are that tax cuts over the last decade downshifted $4.7 billion in costs to local governments, according to the NH Municipal Association. Consequently, the city of Laconia has had to increase local property taxes and cut funding for schools and roads.

The facts are that local taxpayers are paying 72% of the cost of public education and the state 23%. New Hampshire is last in the nation in state support of public education.

The facts are that the vast majority of voters do not want their tax dollars to subsidize the wealthy by paying for private or religious schools. However, GOP representatives ignore the people and continue to expand the voucher program.

I believe the problem lies in Concord because the GOP agenda is the Free State agenda. It is time for a new direction of governance.
