Marc Abear: Lyndon Johnson foisted federal bureaucracy on America, created system to buy votes, not help those in need

Simple desire to tame the unelected, unaccountable administrative state now ruling Americans, the de facto fourth branch of government, will not prove sufficient for sustained structural reform. We have witnessed the administrative state’s ability to survive, to metastasize, despite periodic efforts to cut its size and scope.

The administrative state operates on the premise an expert; unaccountable bureaucratic elite must control America and Americans. The assumption is they facilitate the necessary functioning of government. This is wrong, insulting and injurious to the public. The assumption is contrary to the foundations of our nation.

The last four years have shown us the elitist administrative state has been endeavoring to reverse the very premise of the American Revolution. It is the enemy within. We must cut the cancer out. For the last four years we’ve hallowed the placing the government on top of the people.

In doing this the expert, unaccountable bureaucratic elite turned sovereign citizens back into subjects of King Joe the Demented. The administrative state effectively became a monarch governing by the divine right of elites.

Part of the perniciousness of the fourth branch of government is the way it turned our social safety net into a trap for the poor. It was supposed to be a trampoline to self-sufficiency.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believed bureaucrats controlling the money and the process which the disadvantaged received such benefits would both increase costs and reduce their ability to become self-sufficient; to control their own lives.

Lyndon B. Johnson did not dispute Kennedy’s assessment. Instead he ignored him. LBJ foisted a massive federal bureaucracy on America and the poor. He knew he could use government dependency to cement part of the Democrat Party’s political base. He created a system to buy votes not help those in need. What does DOGE bring; good or bad?
