To The Daily Sun,
I can’t help but feel that partisan politics in New Hampshire have gotten nastier lately. One issue that has influenced this opinion is the frivolous impeachment legislation, filed on Jan. 7, against Executive Councilor Karen Liot Hill.
I have known Karen for years and am proud to have her represent my district on the Executive Council. I see her working hard to improve life for Granite Staters, and as the only Democrat on the council, her voice is important.
Why do I say the legislation, filed by Republican House Majority Leader Joe Sweeney, is frivolous? Because accusations that were made against Liot Hill were thoroughly examined by the Attorney General’s office, and they found no violation of law or ethics.
The last impeachment inquiry was 25 years ago. It was not cost-free, consuming legislative time, staff resources, and taxpayer dollars. It’s a waste of time and money.
If the GOP has opinions that differ from those of Councilor Liot Hill, those disagreements should be resolved through debate and elections — not by threatening to remove her from office.
