David Matteson: No second chance for politicians who fail to keep promises

In 2024, Donald Trump campaigned on no new wars, ending the war in Ukraine in under 24 hours, gas under $2/gallon, reducing the cost of living, reducing the national debt and releasing all of the Epstein files. We are now in a war with Iran, the war in Ukraine is still going on 20 months later, gas is over $4/gallon, inflation that was 2.5% in 2024 has increased to 3.4%, the national debt has ballooned to $40 trillion and only half of the Epstein files have been released and most of them were heavily redacted.

Congressmen vote along party lines over 90% of the time so if readers are happy with where the country is at, the direction it is heading and that Republicans have kept their campaign promises, then they need to vote for them for the house and senate in November. If they feel that the country is not in a good place or headed in the right direction and campaign promises weren’t kept then they need to vote for Democrats in November.

Voters need to ignore the recent promise of a $5,000 dividend for every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain control of both the House and Senate as they will never happen. We were promised $5,000 DOGE refund checks and $2,000 tariff refunds which we never got, and this promise is no different.

We need to hold both parties accountable or things will never change. When a party or politician fails to deliver on campaign promises we shouldn’t keep giving them another chance. At some point we have to admit that they can’t or won’t deliver on their promises. What matters is what they do, not what they say they will do if we just give them another couple of years or another term.
