Cody Pfaff: What affordability means to a Republican candidate

Marcia Hayward’s recent letter stated that Sheri Minor is running for state representative in this election. That is incorrect.

She also asked whom we mean when discussing affordability. My answer is simple: the taxpayer.

At the polls, I asked Democratic State Senate candidate Kurt Webber, “If the state increased funding for public education, would property taxes come down?” His answer was, “They could.”

That is exactly the concern. More state revenue will not guarantee lower property taxes.

In the first paragraph of Marcia's letter, she claims that only wealthy corporations located outside of the United States benefitted from the Business Profits Tax reduction. The truth is 93% of Business Profits Tax payers are small, domestic New Hampshire businesses. The same businesses that drive our economy.

Before creating new taxes, we should ask whether the government is effectively spending the money it already collects.

I believe New Hampshire needs a smaller, more effective government that spends responsibly and allows families to keep more of what they earn instead of asking them for more.

That’s what affordability means to me.
