To The Daily Sun,
As the Director of New Hampshire Lottery, I am writing in response to a recent letter questioning whether New Hampshire Lottery proceeds truly support public education and whether the state provides any public accounting of these funds. These concerns are understandable — transparency and accountability matter — but the claims made in the letter do not reflect how the New Hampshire Lottery operates.
Since its inception in 1964, every dollar of New Hampshire Lottery profit from the sale of lottery tickets has been earmarked for state education funding, as required by state law. Over the past 62 years, we have proudly delivered more than $3.1 billion to New Hampshire schools.
Just as importantly, the Lottery’s finances are not hidden — they are among the most publicly accessible in state government. The New Hampshire Lottery publishes Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports, monthly and annual revenue summaries, and sports betting revenue reports, all openly available on its website.
These documents clearly show where lottery revenue comes from and how much is transferred to public education each year. In recent years, the Lottery has delivered record-breaking contributions — more than $207 million in fiscal year 2024 and nearly $209 million in fiscal year 2025 to support teachers, students and public schools across the Granite State.
The New Hampshire Lottery is proud of its impact and remains firmly committed to transparency, responsible financial reporting and its core mission: maximizing support for New Hampshire public education.
