A Keene State College student suffered injuries early Sunday morning in what officials say was an accidental fall in an on-campus residence hall.

The Keene Police Department responded to Butler Court at 1:29 a.m. to assist the fire department with an injured male with “what appeared to be a head injury,” Lt. Michael Kopcha said Monday morning.

“It was a medical issue,” he said. “We were only there in a supporting role. There was no criminal element.”

The incident took place in Carle Hall, Keene State spokesman Paul Miller said in an email Monday morning. The dorm, a co-ed residence hall, is Keene State's largest, housing roughly 300 students, according to Keene State's website.

The student was taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to police, but the extent of his injuries are not known as of Monday morning, according to a news release from the college.

Keene State is cooperating with local authorities, and offering counseling services for any students and staff affected by the incident, according to the release.
