MEREDITH — One person was killed, and several others were seriously injured, when two vehicles collided on Route 3 on Sunday evening.

Hannah Chaignot, 18, of Meredith, died as a result of the collision. Seriously injured, according to a press release from Meredith police, were Nicholas Bray, 19, of Bristol, who was driving the car Chaignot was riding in, as well as an unidentified 13-year-old passenger.

The two people in the other vehicle involved, Paul and Nancy Fuchs, both 87 and of Moultonborough, were also seriously injured.

Emergency responders, including Meredith police and fire as well as Stewart’s Ambulance, were called via automatic crash notification to the area of 147 Daniel Webster Hwy for a vehicle collision. They found the result of a two vehicle accident involving a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Bray, and a 2017 Outback operated by Paul Fuchs.

The two vehicles, which were traveling in opposite directions, collided on the stretch of road south of the Meredith traffic circle, in the area of the Mello Moose Coffee House. Chaignot was deceased when responders arrived.

The four other victims were rushed to hospitals — two to Concord Hospital-Laconia, and two to Concord Hospital-Concord. Three were then taken by helicopter to trauma centers in Boston.

Meredith Police Sgt. William Goulet said on Monday all four were considered to be in serious condition.

The road was closed until midnight. The Belknap County Regional Accident Investigation Team is assisting Meredith police in investigating the collision, and no information is currently being released regarding what might have caused the collision.

Anyone with information that might be helpful to the investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Scott McGown with Meredith police at 603-279-4561. Local police were assisted on the scene by State Police, Center Harbor and New Hampton police departments, Laconia Fire Department and Stanford Towing.
