TILTON — Craig Moses was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident after a dirt bike accident downtown on Tuesday.
Moses, 35, is accused of striking a Ford F-150 pickup truck with a dirt bike before fleeing the scene.
Moses, of Tilton, is also charged with reckless operation, operating an off-highway recreational vehicle on a public way and operating that vehicle while unregistered, Sgt. Michael Foster said Wednesday evening.
Officers with the Tilton Police Department responded at 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 29 to School and Main street where Moses, operating the dirt bike, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the Ford truck.
The dirt bike was initially reported as a “bike” to Tilton’s dispatch, Foster said. The dirt bike was not registered or equipped for operation on a public road.
Witnesses at the scene told police the dirt bike rider was not wearing a helmet and thought he’d been injured and appeared to be intoxicated.
After the crash, Moses righted the dirt bike and fled the scene but was spotted by one of the responding officers, who subsequently located Moses at his home.
The incident is under investigation.
