NH Boat Museum celebrates Phase II expansion with ribbon-cutting ceremony

MOULTONBOROUGH — The New Hampshire Boat Museum celebrated their Phase II expansion and renovation project Thursday night with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The expansion represents an addition of 6,500 square feet and a $500,000 investment.

The project transforms the new space into exhibit areas, conference and educational spaces, and community galleries.

“I would say that what we can do here is limitless, but we're already filling it up. This expansion strengthens our ability to serve families, students, researchers, and visitors that come to this part of New Hampshire,” said Devon Kurtz, executive director of the NH Boat Museum.

The museum received a $250,000 grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission Catalyst Program, a federal program focusing on rural community and economic development. The museum was able to match the award by raising funds through community efforts, museum members, local sponsors, and private donors. Kurtz recognized Jaime Laurent, a member of the board of trustees, for spearheading the efforts and writing the federal grant application.

Executive Councilor Joe Kenney read a statement from Gov. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).

“The completion of this project is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of the New Hampshire Boat Museum's leadership, staff, community members, and volunteers whose efforts continue to contribute to the vitality of the region.”

Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) sent the NH Boat Museum a prerecorded statement, congratulating them on their Phase II expansion.

“I was glad to support this project through NBRC's Catalyst Program, which invests federal funds in economic development in rural counties. Smart investments like these strengthen our economy and way of life, and are making a difference, from the Lakes Region to our North Country.”
