ALTON — In an unusual move, the Alton Zoning Board of Adjustment is meeting on Thursday morning to revisit its decision earlier this month to rescind the application of a developer who wants to build a wedding and retreat center on Cherry Valley Road.

A large crowd of people turned out to see developer Lakes Hospitality Group present an application for a special exception on June 6, which would have permitted the operation of a commercial facility within the town’s rural zone. However, the ZBA ruled the plan was incomplete — specific shortcomings included conflicting details on planning documents and lack of information about the total height of the tallest building — and therefore the developer wasn’t invited to present her plan. Further, the ZBA said on June 6, the application was already continued four times, and therefore no additional continuances would be offered. If the applicant wished to pursue the plan, they would have to re-submit a new application.

Now, it appears, the ZBA is re-thinking that position.

The Alton ZBA will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, at which the only item on the agenda is a motion to reconsider the Lakes Hospitality Group’s case.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at Alton Town Hall.
