The Floor is returning April 8 on Fox, and the game show announced a “game-changing twist.” A new promo for the upcoming season explained exactly what the “territory freeze” is.
The Rob Lowe-hosted game show features 100 contestants standing in squares with their expert category attached to it. Picked by a randomizer, contestants then face off with a category of their choosing that is connected to them. Whoever conquers the whole floor by the end of the season win $250,000.
Ashley Washburn won Season 4 and shared how the twists, including America’s Duels, the golden square, and the time boosts, all affected the game.
“The categories are tougher, and the competition is dialed up to 11,” Lowe said. “This is a season that will keep you glued until the very end. Week by week, you can just feel the pressure being ratcheted up.”

Has The Floor been renewed for Season 5?
Yes! In May 2025, Fox announced that The Floor would return for Season 4 and Season 5. Deadline was the first to report the news.

The Territory Freeze is the new twist for this season. In the YouTube video, Lowe explained that whichever contestant wins the most duels by mid-season earns the freeze.
“That means, halfway through the season, whoever has the most territory is safe,” he said. “No one can go after them.”

In the trailer, Lowe shared some of the new Season 5 categories, which include Legos, Pool Party, Tattoos, Bobbleheads, Yacht Rock, Barbier, Sexiest Man Alive, Global News, Track and Field, and Handbags. There will be other categories that weren’t featured in the video.
