LACONIA — Susan Clark Amlicke passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sept. 4, 2025, in Laconia.

Susan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Jan. 19, 1940, to Dr. Orlo Holly Clark, a surgeon, and to Elizabeth Herrick Clark, a nurse. Her childhood was largely spent in Nutley, New Jersey, in New York on her grandparents’ farm, and at Seneca and Horseshoe lakes; however, she lived in San Francisco (1942-45) while her father was a U.S. naval surgeon in the Pacific during World War II.

Susan graduated from Nutley High School, received her associate's degree in liberal arts from the University of Tennessee, her bachelor of science in nursing from Columbia University, and became a registered nurse. After her children were grown, she returned to school to earn her master of science in nursing at the College of New Rochelle.

Married in 1962 to Thomas Amlicke, they relocated to Columbus, Georgia, where Tom was stationed at Fort Benning in the Army. Susan worked at the Columbus, Georgia, Medical Center as a pediatric nurse teacher. After Columbus, Georgia, they moved to Larchmont, New York, where Susan worked as a nurse for pediatric doctor William Whitten. She later worked as a school nurse at the Westchester Day School and the Hallen School.

Susan and Tom loved singing and were active members of the Music Commuters singing group based in Larchmont.

She loved all things in nature, conservation, and people. She volunteered for Ranger Rick, Girl and Boy scouts, and the Mamaroneck L.I.F.E. Center, now the Sheldrake Environmental Center. At the L.I.F.E. Center, she pioneered Beautification Day. She and Tom were catalysts for creating the Town of Mamaroneck’s first recycling center, a facility for recycling green, brown and clear glass. Susan and Tom also helped form the Larchmont Reservoir Wildlife Sanctuary.

She was active with St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was a frequent lector and continued to attend Mass over Zoom in New Hampshire.

In her later years, she was a force in protecting the World War II Kemper Memorial, which is located next to Mamaroneck High School. She spent countless hours creating awareness and organizing the community to protect this memorial.

Susan and Thomas loved the New Hampshire Lakes Region, where they vacationed for more than 40 years and eventually retired.

Susan Amlicke was preceded in death by her brother Orlo Clark (Carol Clark) and grandchild Skylar Bahrenburg. She is survived by her husband Thomas, son Thomas Jr. (Margaret Amlicke), daughter Elizabeth (James Bahrenburg), son James (Tatiane Amlicke), and daughter Christy (Justin Tarducci); her grandchildren, Spencer and Sawyer Bahrenburg, Benjamin and Sydney Amlicke, Grace Amlicke, and Alexander and Nathaniel Tarducci; her sibling, William Clark (Mary Clark); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to acknowledge Susan’s exceptional nurses and aides who cared for her at Taylor Community.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
