Robert S. Thornton, 93

LACONIA — Robert Seavey Thornton, 93, of Wellington Drive, passed away on Jan. 23, 2024, at Concord Hospital in Concord.

Robert was born on May 6, 1930, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the son of Harry and Marion (Seavey) Thornton.

He grew up in Ward Hill, Massachusetts, attended the Haverhill, Massachusetts, school system, and was a member of the Saggahew Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. Robert was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Tufts University, where he graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was a professional engineer and was employed at Western Electric in North Andover, Massachusetts, for 34 years.

Over the years, Robert and his wife lived in Groveland, Massachusetts, Plaistow, Barrington and Laconia. Bob was retired for 34 years.

Robert loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking in the White Mountains, geocaching, ice fishing and skiing. He also enjoyed personal computers, email, digital photography and peanut butter.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Brenda (Klotzle) Thornton; sons Robert Thornton and his wife Jennifer of Stuart, Florida, Peter Thornton and his wife JoAnn of Danville, and Andrew Thornton of Groveton; daughter Suzanne DeNunzio and her husband Thomas of Warwick, Rhode Island; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert is predeceased by his parents and his siblings.

In lieu of services, a private celebration of Bob’s life was held at his home.
